The IG is committed to perform the following functions:

  1. Production of Intelligence. This involves planning, directing and supervising the collection of pertinent information and its subsequent conversion into useful intelligence for dissemination to both PNP operating units and higher authorities as a tool for decision and policy-making process.
  2. Counterintelligence. This task entails planning, directing and executing operations to protect the PNP against espionage, subversion of its personnel and sabotage of key installations and facilities. This function also includes detection and investigation of acts of graft and corruption, criminality, treason, coup d’état, disaffection, sedition, or espionage within the PNP organization.
  3. Special Operations. This function focuses on the conduct of neutralization measures against the organizational machinery and leading personalities of the various threat groups in the country.
  4. Investigation and Legal Offensive. This function undertakes the collection of information and materials that can be accepted as court evidence in the prosecution of neutralized target personalities.
